A road to Womens Empowerment(?). Förra tillfället var väldigt uppskattat och intressant, och vi hoppas att så många som möjligt kommer även denna gång! Anmälan görs till studycircle@svalorna.org.

The second session of this spring’s discussion circle Recognition, Rights, and Resistance will take a look at the topic:

Microcredit – a Road to Women’s Empowerment?
Perspectives from grassroots organisations in Bangladesh.

Monica Erwér, the current Director of the Swallows India Bangladesh as well as lecturer in gender and development studies will introduce the topic and bring forward thoughts and concerns from organisations in Bangladesh and previous experiences in India. The following discussion will center around the meaning and conceptualization of empowerment and investigate the potential of microcredit to create sustainable social change and as a tool for women to take control of their own lives.

The date is 15th April (18:00-19:30), at the Swallows house. The adress is: Spolegatan 5, Lund.

The aim of the discussion circle is to provide an open and participative space for ideas and reflections, so please come with questions and thoughts that intrigue and interest you! All are welcome!

And of course, there will be fika.

For more information and to sign up, please e-mail: studycircle@svalorna.org

For those who sign up, optional reading suggestions will be sent out prior to each session, however signing up ahead of time is not necessary to attend the sessions.

The discussion circle will meet once a month between March and June to discuss, learn, and share thoughts and experiences with each other. Together we will deepen our understanding of women’s movements in South Asia and examine strategies, lessons, and potential connections between movements around the world
